Well, it’s May now. I guess I should just start shooting for a quarterly update, huh? That seems to be about the best I can do with updating these sites. I should probably just teach a robot to do it and call it a day… Anyway, things are going well. The job is still great; learning tons and working with really awesome people. I do have a few side projects / crazy ideas bouncing around, so here’s the good old brain dump of what I’m thinking about these days:

  • Automated T Shirts – I’m really dying to get into a new 4-Hour Work Week style project, and I think setting up an automated t-shirt company could be a good candidate for that. Setup would consist of a website, payment gateway (probably PayPal), API integration to the print company, and designing a few shirts. From there, all orders would be automatically processed and shipped through the site. I would *most likely* do this on Magento just to have my own Magento store to play with, but I’ll also need some other services from the store (like handling downloads and subscriptions), so using Magento would probably be useful in the long run (even though it can be a pain in the butt). Weekly work would be updating and reviewing google/facebook ads and working on overall SEO/SEM.
  • Subscriptions/Donations – I think i would like to build a section of site full of applications that you can subscribe or donate to in return for access. These could be anything from page scrapers to stock watchers, tide logs, etc. I am always developing small applications to help make life on the web more efficient. Some of these can be a little black-hat, so it will probably be a small, contained group of folks.
  • Custom POS – A good friend is opening a beer garden soon, and I’m working on a small POS system to use with lots of backend tracking and analytics. Primarily focused on beer taps and some retail, but the real focus will be on management, automation, and simplicity.

Better late than never, I guess. Working on a few more ideas right now. Currently in the hopper:

  1. latest revision of the media manager
  2. info scraper for mailings/re-posting
  3. game date – a simple calendar app to help you set up game times with your friends online
  4. on my way – tracking software
  5. some new logos for robot armies
  6. level up – kick ass in life

So the new job is going well. Learning a ton, and meeting some pretty awesome people. I hope to still have time for some quirky projects here, and I’m almost done with the first version of my web-based automatic media manager. I’ve got a few other pretty simple ideas I’m playing with as well. For instance:

  • custom homepage, with settings tab for quick customization.
  • automatic form generator, with post/get/onclick options, and the jquery & validation I like preloaded.
  • an automated scraper that will look for photos and articles on the web about robots, then post them to a Facebook.

Sometimes you just need a day to catch up and recover. We’re up in Florence for the weekend with family and it’s nice to know that there’s NOTHING on the agenda. So, I’ve been reviewing a bunch of projects and am going to be cleaning up a bunch of demos and projects. Hoping to have a few links for you folks today, so stay tuned!

Man, I love a Friday. On our way to a wedding in Savannah this weekend and I’m pretty pumped. I realized I’ve never really hung down there and it’s looking to be a pretty good time. In any case, I’m hoping to get wrap up some more bot work later in the weekend and i will post my codes here when they’re done. Sweet!

Have a great weekend.

Ok here’s another crazy one I came up with this morning. Tell me what you think.

The Family Vault - In my family, I’m the tech nerd, so i often get calls from my mom, sister, or wife when something breaks on their computer, or they want to send me some pictures, etc. The Family Vault could be one all-encompasing site/server where family members could not only stay in touch with one another and share media (like a song my grandfather recorded in the 30′s or the photos from my wedding last month), it could also serve as an  automated back-up system for other important documents that family members may need access to (think wills, deeds, etc.)

Part media storage/sharing, part social network, part data backup.

Just a couple of works in progress:
- a simple ticketing system using payapl, and managed with mysql/php
- a web-scraping bot that will pull hard-coded info from logged-in areas
- a new jquery touchscreen design
- some website design updates
- a little bit of home automation
